ALIGNED
FEATURING LARRY HOROWITZ & ANDREINA RON PEDRIQUE
On February 28, 2025, all seven of the other planets in our solar system will be visible in the sky at the same time, neatly aligned in a rare celestial occurrence. Some stargazers are calling it a planetary parade - a cause for celebration. Others are hunkering down, tucking into the stillness and intentional slowness of the Northern Hemisphere's ongoing winter season. Aligned examines differing approaches to the yin and yang of nature's rhythms and features internationally recognized artists, New York-based Larry Horowitz and Miami-based Andreina Ron Pedrique.
Larry Horowitz calls himself “an abstract painter hiding behind landscape work.” Larry paints both en plein air and in his studio in oil, watercolor, and pastel, and his paintings reflect a synchronicity with nature that flows from his inner eye. Larry’s 40-year career began with a coveted and prestigious position as apprentice to American master Wolf Kahn. Kahn, perhaps the best-known and most significant landscape painter of the latter 20th century, trained and guided Larry for six years. Under his tutelage, Larry learned to walk the thin line between realism and abstraction, and to appreciate – and in many cases fabricate by hand – the immense variety of materials available to the professional artist. Larry has noted: “When painting a landscape, one needs to be more than an artist. You need to be a meteorologist to paint the sky, a geologist to paint the rocks, and an architect to paint a house.”
Originally from Venezuela and based in Miami, Florida, Andreina Ron Pedrique is a third-generation artist who has established a dedicated following for her body of expressive abstract paintings. Emphasizing the power of emotion, expression, and gesture, Ron Pedrique’s work is informed by her experiences, environment, and the complexity of the world that surrounds her. Ron Pedrique’s paintings are a living archive of emotional and spiritual creative reactivity. Her influences yield immersive, atmospheric paintings bathed in neutral hues, which invite us into the fold of transcendent simplicity and the evocative potency of abstraction.
The natural, astronomical mystery and magic of the February 2025 planetary alignment is reflected in the quiet, wintery scenes that Larry Horowitz captures in his rich and intentional works on canvas. The excitement and celebration of our natural world radiates from the emotionally charged works of Andreina Ron Pedrique. Bridging the work of these artists is Aligned, which offers a moment of artistic intention and visual meditation.
